Story Line: Following the successful destruction of a drug laboratory in Latin America, MI6 agent James Bond takes a well-deserved vacation in Miami Beach. His superior, M, with the assistance of CIA agent Felix Leiter, instructs Bond to keep a close eye on bullion dealer Auric Goldfinger, who is staying at a local hotel. Bond uncovers Goldfinger's underhanded tactics in a high-stakes gin rummy game, with the secret aid of his employee, Jill Masterson. Bond interrupts the game and forces Goldfinger to lose through blackmail. After a night of romance with Jill, Bond is unexpectedly incapacitated by Goldfinger's enigmatic Korean manservant, Oddjob. When Bond regains consciousness, he discovers Jill dead, her body coated in gold paint, a victim of "skin suffocation."
Back in London, M assigns Bond the task of uncovering how Goldfinger smuggles gold across international borders. Q equips Bond with a modified Aston Martin DB5 and two tracking devices. Bond challenges Goldfinger to a golf game at his country club in Kent, wagering a bar of recovered Nazi gold provided by the Bank of England. Despite Goldfinger's attempts at cheating, Bond outwits him and wins the match. Goldfinger issues a stern warning to Bond about meddling in his affairs, and Oddjob demonstrates his extraordinary strength.
Bond tracks Goldfinger to Switzerland, where he crosses paths with Jill's sister, Tilly, whose attempt to assassinate Goldfinger fails. Bond sneaks into Goldfinger's gold refinery and overhears a conversation between Goldfinger and a Chinese nuclear physicist, Ling. Bond learns of Goldfinger's unorthodox method of smuggling gold by incorporating it into his Rolls-Royce Phantom III's bodywork to escape England. Bond also overhears the mention of "Operation Grand Slam" and encounters Tilly again, who is once more thwarted in her assassination attempt by Oddjob. An alarm is triggered, leading to Tilly's death at the hands of Oddjob's lethal hat. Bond is captured and strapped to a table with an overhead industrial laser, the deadly beam inching closer to him. Bond tells Goldfinger that MI6 is aware of Operation Grand Slam, prompting Goldfinger to spare Bond's life to mislead MI6 into thinking Bond is safe.
Pilot Pussy Galore transports the captive Bond to Goldfinger's stud farm near Lexington, Kentucky, aboard a private jet. At the farm, Bond escapes his confinement and witnesses Goldfinger's meeting with American mobsters who are supplying materials for Operation Grand Slam. Goldfinger intends to breach the U.S. Bullion Depository at Fort Knox by releasing delta-9 nerve gas into the atmosphere. He claims it will induce a 24-hour unconsciousness, but in reality, it's lethal to those exposed.
The mobsters ridicule Goldfinger's plan, with Mr. Solo demanding immediate payment before departing. Solo's departure, however, leads to his death at the hands of Oddjob, and his body and Bond's tracking device are obliterated in a car crusher. Bond confronts Goldfinger about the logistical challenges of moving the stolen gold. Goldfinger denies any intention to steal it and reveals that the Chinese government has offered him a dirty bomb to detonate inside the Fort Knox vault, irradiating the gold for years. Goldfinger's own gold will appreciate in value, while the Chinese gain an economic advantage. Goldfinger warns that any interference will result in the bomb being detonated at another critical U.S. location.
Operation Grand Slam commences with Pussy Galore's Flying Circus spraying gas over Fort Knox, apparently rendering the military guards and government personnel unconscious. Goldfinger's private army infiltrates Fort Knox, and Goldfinger arrives by helicopter with the bomb. In the vault, Goldfinger's henchman, Kisch, handcuffs Bond to the bomb. Unbeknownst to Goldfinger, Bond has persuaded Pussy to alert U.S. authorities and replace the deadly gas with a harmless substance. Goldfinger locks the vault with Bond, Oddjob, and Kisch inside. As the U.S. army launches an attack, Goldfinger falsely kills Ling and escapes. Kisch attempts to disarm the bomb, but Oddjob pushes him from a gangway. Bond frees himself with Kisch's key, but he faces a brutal confrontation with Oddjob. Bond ultimately electrocutes Oddjob to death, then struggles to disarm the bomb. After eliminating Goldfinger's henchmen, U.S. troops open the vault, and a specialist deactivates the device with "007" seconds remaining.
While en route with Pussy, Bond is aboard a plane hijacked by Goldfinger. During a struggle for Goldfinger's revolver, a shot causes an explosive decompression, blowing Goldfinger through a ruptured window to his death. Bond and Pussy parachute safely from the plane before it crashes. Leiter's search helicopter flies over them, landing in a wooded area. Bond decides, "This is no time to be rescued," and uses the parachute to shield himself and Pussy.
